The
main difference of the SPECIAL model is its engine characteristic
which have been improved. The goal was to regain the ‘invigorating’
nature of the original BONNEVILLE that so many clients were
asking for. The result is beyond our hopes. |

More
particularly, this means 40 % torque added with a comfortable
cruise speed… without tampering the engine reliability
!! |
We
insist on this point because we know that for many guys, engine
tuning is often made to the detriment of reliability. In this
case, and as surprising as it seems, it is exactly the contrary.
The reason is that the new Bonneville has suffered "outrageous"
to conform to the regulations of some countries. We have to
know that, very soon, only the programmed fuel injection will
be approved by those regulations. We are now living the end
of the ‘carb’ years (fuel injected engines use
as much fuel as the others but this is another matter…)
For the Bonnie, we decided to start from the beginning and
check, step by step, everything an engine needs to express
itself normally before defining the wanted character with
the new kit parts. |

It’s like taking off your coat when you are too hot
!…”
Indeed, and if you really want to understand, just compare
the colour of the exhaust pipes of a ‘standard’
Bonneville and of a Bonneville with a MECATWIN kit…
it is edifying. The comparison is also true about the ‘backfire’
you hear when you close the throttle on some off-road exhaust
pipes !
As well as giving more torque and more feeling, the MECATWIN

Developing the DUAL SYSTEM* exhausts, we also worked on the
“music” quality of the Bonnie. The word “music”
is important because one should not misunderstand quantity
and quality. Emotions guaranteed … the sound is fabulous,
music lovers will appreciate ! Design has not been forgotten
either : shorter and slightly canting up, they use the shape
of the pre-1969 most beautiful US models. Totally made in
stainless-steel, their life is about three times longer than
ordinary exhausts systems. |
